How to Part & Roller Set Hair

    • 1). Start with damp hair. Water will help the hairstyle set, so roll the hair after shampooing and conditioning.

    • 2). Apply setting lotion to the hair. For bouncy curls, apply less setting lotion. Apply more setting lotion for hard curls.

    • 3). Select the size of rollers that works best for your hair. Choose large rollers for large, bouncy curls, or select smaller rollers for tighter curls. Opt for smaller rollers if you have short hair.

    • 4). With a parting comb or a rat-tail comb, part the hair into four or five even sections. Each section should extend vertically from the hairline to the nape of the neck.

    • 5). Start with the middle section. Enclose the other sections into separate rubber bands so that they do not interfere. In the middle section, make a horizontal part, approximately one inch away from the hairline.

    • 6). Roll this section with a hair roller. Secure the roller with the roller clip or hair pin.

    • 7). Make another horizontal part, approximately an inch past the former part. Repeat until you reach the nape of the neck.

    • 8). Continue with a different section. Remove that section's rubber band, and make a part approximately 1 inch away from the hairline. Repeat until you reach the nape of the neck.

    • 9). Roll the other sections until you have rolled all of your hair.

Air dry the hair overnight, or dry it under a hooded hair dryer.
