Registered Nurses (RNs) provide medical treatment, education and emotional support to patients and their families. RNs are educated and trained to teach their patients and their families how to manage their injuries or illnesses. Nursing degree programs in Canada provide the education and experience needed in order to begin a career in the nursing field. - The University of Ottawa offers a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing program that is in collaboration with Algonquin College. The program lasts four years and gives students the option to study in French at the University of Ottawa, or English at Algonquin College. Upon completion of the courses, students receive their degree from the University of Ottawa. Students in this program learn about human anatomy and physiology and the determinants of health, as well as microbiology and immunology, theory in nursing, and mental health nursing. In addition to the academic learning, students are also required to complete seven practicums in areas such as mental health, childbearing family and complex nursing care.
