The Process Involved

• 1). Download an application kit on the homepage of CIC.
  
  If your spouse currently resides in Canada, then you will need to download an application kit for permanent residency in Canada. You will find a link to the download page in the Resources section.
  
  If your spouse is currently not in Canada, you will need to download a sponsorship application. See the Resources section for a link to the download page.
  
  To minimize any possible delay or complications, you must ensure that you use the correct application kit depending on where your spouse resides at the time of your application.
  
  
• 2). Have your spouse complete part 2 (the application for permanent residency) and 3 (the region specific forms) of the sponsorship application kit. You will need to complete part 1 (the sponsorship application, also known as IMM5491) so have your spouse mail the forms to you if you live separately.
  
  
• 3). Mail all completed forms as well as any supporting documentation you might have to the following CIC address:
