How to Make Rabbits Out of Socks
- 1). Lay a sock inside out on your work surface with the heel facing upward and the opening of the sock directly in front of you. This opening is the bottom of the sock.
- 2). Measure from the left to the right across the toe with a ruler to find the center of the sock. Draw a line down the center from the tip of the toe to about 2 inches above the heel of the sock.
- 3). Draw a line down the center from the bottom of the sock. Make the line about 3 inches long.
- 4). Sew a straight stitch from the toe of the sock to the 2-inch mark. Sew just to the right of the center line. Sew another straight stitch from the toe of the sock to the 2-inch mark, just to the left of the center line. Cut a slit down the center line and then sew a few stitches across the end of the slit. You have now created the two ears for the sock rabbit.
- 5). Sew a straight stitch from the bottom opening of the sock up to the 3-inch mark, just to the right of the center line. Sew another straight stitch from the opening to the 3-inch mark, just to the left of the center line. Cut a slit down the center line. You have now created the two legs for the sock rabbit.
- 6). Turn the sock right side out through the top of the slit. Fill the sock with polyester filling and then sew the top of the slit closed.
- 7). Measure downward 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the ears. Sew a straight stitch around the sock at this mark and then tug on the thread to gather the rabbit's neckline. Wrap a small piece of ribbon around the stitched neck and tie the ribbon in a bow.
- 8). Cut two strips from another sock. Make each strip about 1 inch wide by 2 1/2 inches long. Fold the sock strips in half lengthwise and sew a straight stitch down each long edge. Turn the sock tubes right side out through one end and then sew the ends closed. Pin one tube to either side of the rabbit, just below the neck and sew a whipstitch to attach the tubes and make the rabbit's arms.
- 9). Use black embroidery thread to sew two circles for the eyes. Use the same thread to make a curve line for the rabbit's mouth. Use peach-colored embroidery thread to make a small triangle for the nose.
