How to Take Apart a GE Profile Ice Maker
- 1). Unplug the refrigerator. Remove the ice bin from the freezer so you have more room to work.
- 2). Remove the screws that hold the cover in place. Depending on your model, there are between two and five screws. The cover is still held in place by plastic tabs.
- 3). Wrap a piece of electrical tape around the blade of a flat head screwdriver. There are two tabs at the top of the ice maker cover. Slip the blade into one of the clip areas and press down gently. Pull the housing to help free the clip. It probably will not come free the first time. Do the same procedure on the other side. Repeat to "walk" the housing off the ice maker assembly. Now you can see the auger and the ice crusher blade housing.
- 4). Remove the screw on the outside of the auger assembly. This screw has reverse threads, so turn it clockwise instead of counterclockwise. Remove the C-clip that holds the auger into place. This can be popped off with an edge of the flat head screwdriver.
- 5). Remove the auger and blade assembly. Now the ice crushing blades and auger can be taken out. Replace the broken parts and reassemble in reverse order.
