How to Do a Perm Rod Set
- 1). Wash your hair with clarifying shampoo and rinse well. Do not apply conditioner.
- 2). Squeeze the excess moisture from your hair and comb out all tangles.
- 3). Use the comb to separate your hair into nine different sections, pinning each section to the head using a metal clip. There should be a section at the very top of the head, two on each side of that, then three more below that, then three more below that. The diagram included with your at-home perm set will have an image of the proper section placement.
- 4). Start with the section directly on top of the head. Comb it directly up and separate a section from it that is equal to the size of perm rods you are using. If you are using 1/2-inch rods, take a 1/2-inch section of hair.
- 5). Place a hair end paper on the last 1/3 inch of the hair. Pull the paper down until it clings to the ends of the hair. Wrap the section tightly around a perm curler all the way to the scalp, securing by sticking a perm rod through the center.
- 6). Repeat with what remains of the section on top of the head, curling evenly sized sections of hair in a single row until all the hair is secure.
- 7). Let one of the top side sections out of the clip and divide it to be curled by the rollers using the same method. Finish each section so all the hair is secured the head in perm rollers.
- 8). Mix the waving lotion in your specific at-home perm set according to the directions inside and apply as indicated.
