Attachment parenting attempts to forge strong and bonded relationships between parents and their children throught different ways.
It is suggested that if this bond is not formed early in a baby or child's life, that it will not form as strongly as it could have if AP was practiced from a young age.
Attachment parenting begins long before the child is born, in the actual preparation for birth and delivery.
Much thought should be given to these events as possible, choosing carefully all of the plans and details that will be involved in the birth and raising of the child.
That preparation and time that is spent preparing for the pregnancy, birth and delivery is then funneled into the same preparation of the methods of parenting and can be just as focused.
The basis of most attachment parenting is doing so with nurturing and sensitivity.
Most subscribers to the AP philosophy believe in gentle parenting, as well as practices such as feeding on demand, baby wearing and baby slings in general, and other practices that seek to forge that bond between parent and child through informed and positive parenting.
