Eco Friendly Showers

Water is an extremely important natural resource that we cannot afford to waste.
Although we have plenty of salt water (two third of the world's surface is water), this salt water cannot be used for most purposes, bathing being one of them.
We are thus left with sweet water for all of our chores - we need it for drinking, and we need it for taking a shower.
It is therefore important that we try to restrict the wastage of water as much as we can.
One very important area where we can reduce the amount of water we waste is in the shower.
Arguably we use far too much water for bathing in general and using eco-friendly showers certainly seems like a move in the right direction.
And the best part is, you really don't need to buy costly gadgets.
Just make a few small changes, and you can save water and do your bit for the Earth.
Eco-Friendly Showers - Make These Small Changes for a Responsible Bath • Say "No" to plastic containers - It is easy to recycle those cardboard boxes that are used to package soaps whereas many plastic containers are not biodegradable.
• Use natural ingredients - Soap bars, cleaning products and shampoos until recently used chemicals that were harmful for the environment.
However today, a few eco-friendly alternatives are available.
These are mostly plant-based products that are Earth-friendly, and they are good for your body too.
Avoid those products that use non renewable chemicals.
• Why not make your own soap? The fact is, you can make your own cleaning products and soaps for showers, and it is easy too.
You can use baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice, and they are all good for the environment as well.
• Change your facets and shower head - The usual shower head will give you between 6 and 7 gallons of water in a minute.
But frankly, you do not need this.
Switch to a low-flow head that provides anything between 1.
5 and 3 gallons.
That may be enough for you and will let you save a lot of water over the long-term which will also allow you to reduce your water bill.
Calculate the gallons saved over 6 months and you will see how much just one person can save, both financially and environmentally.
If everyone took these very simple steps then we could dramatically decrease our water consumption and help reduce the severity of water shortages in summer months.
• Change the decor - Try glass as the door of your showers instead of plastic, and you can go for natural curtains too.
Curtains made of plastic are not good for the environment, as they are based upon oil, a non renewable resource.
You could try cotton, linen and hemp.
The same is true of the shower surround itself as you may prefer buying glass shower surrounds rather than plastic, as glass is made from silicon, a naturally occurring material.
Glass is also very versatile, so it can be used for walk in shower enclosures and many other types.
