The MLA Works Cited Format
- Include the author's, name, book title (underlined), publisher's city, publisher's name and publication date, e.g., Webb, Tyler. Basho: The Zen Philosopher. New York: Browning, 1980.
- Include the author's name, article title in quotation marks, the journal title (underlined), the issue or volume number, the date and the page numbers, e.g., Banks, Taylor H. "Hong Kong Cinema's Influence on American Action Movies." Journal of the Moving Image 17.3 (1985): 139-144.
- Include the author's name, the article title in quotation marks, the website title (underlined), the date the site was retrieved and the website address, e.g., Thorpe, Bruce C. "Watergate: The Players and Their Roles." The History of the American Presidency. 8 Oct. 2007. <http://historyofpresidency.com/watergate/players.html>
- An in-text citation should be made in parentheses and contain the author's last name and the page number, e.g, "The Big Boss" was directed by Lo Wei (Banks, 140); or: Banks noted that director Lo Wei emphasized action scenes over dialogue (140).
- Include all authors' names of sources related to an in-text citation, e.g., Gerald Ford's decision to pardon Richard M. Nixon remains a controversial decision (Durant 23; Fletcher 17; Wilhelm 42).
