    Writing a Good Resume Objective

    • 1). Cut to the chase. The first sentence in your objective should clearly indicate why you are the best candidate. You can do this by addressing what the employer is looking for in an employee. If applying for a customer service position, you might write, "Customer service professional with more than 10 years of experience."

    • 2). Be concise. Two to three sentences are the maximum needed. You can add detail in another section of your resume or in your cover letter.

    • 3). Customize. Be sure your objective contains the position or department title and two to three qualities and abilities that an employer can benefit from. This is a nice nod to the employer and illustrates your true interest in their posting.

    • 4). Avoid common pitfalls. Don't use "I" statements. Do not include phrases like, "Seeking a challenging position that will use my experience and qualifications." Do not be too broad or too general. Use the job posting that you are responding to as a guide.
