How to Construct a Poster
- 1). Determine the purpose of your poster. The decorations you apply will be dictated by the intent of your poster. If the purpose of your poster is to advertise a school dance, for instance, you have more freedom with glitter and other colorful additions. If you're advertising a business, you may want a more professional presentation.
- 2). Keep the message at the center of the poster. This will require you to plan a balance of artistic elements that will complement the text of your poster and not overshadow it.
- 3). Use dark marker for your text. If you're making a poster for an event, write the name of the event in thick letters across the top of the poster. Place all relevant times, cost and other contact at the bottom of the poster, written smaller than the headline. Consider cutting the headline text from construction paper if you're going for a more artistic approach. Describe the even thoroughly.
- 4). Consider purchasing a self-adhesive poster lamination from a hobby store. Lamination brings out the color and definition of a poster and provides protection. Lamination is essential if your poster will be displayed outdoors. You might also consider mounting your poster on a heavier-stock poster board for durability.
