How Do I String a Lawn Trimmer?
- 1). Deactivate the string trimmer and make sure there is no way you can accidentally turn it on while you work. Some models can be unplugged, while others will enable you to detach wires to ensure safety while working.
- 2). Unscrew the trimmer head spool. Some models will require you to use a screwdriver, some will have push tabs and others will simply turn clockwise or counterclockwise. Look for arrows indicating which direction the head turns for removal.
- 3). Cut the end of the string at a 45-degree angle; this will secure it to the spool more easily. Insert the cut end of the string into the starting hole at the base of the spool to hold it in place.
- 4). Wind the string tightly against the spool. Follow the arrow drawn on the spool to indicate the direction in which you need to wind. Wind in neat rows, avoiding any bumps or twists in the line. Wind until there are about 6 inches of string remaining.
- 5). Hook the remainder of the string into the retaining notch, which is located on the edge of the spool. This will hold the string in place while you reassemble the trimmer.
- 6). Thread the remaining string through the eyelet on the trimmer. Once it is threaded, detach the string from the retaining notch.
- 7). Reattach the trimmer head spool to the rest of the trimmer.
