Troubleshooting Advance Ballasts
- An Advance ballast capacitor refers to an electronic component that stores electricity between conductors. Excessive heat or current can damage a capacitor and cause the Advance ballast to fail. Replacing the capacitor typically restores ballast function.
- Advance ballast ignitors provide a high voltage pulse that breaks down the gases between the electrodes of an arc lamp, activating the lamp. A defective or damaged ignitor will prevent the lamp from lighting properly and should be replaced.
- Advance ballasts may fail to function due to lack of power. The owner should check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses that can cause a loss of power to the ballast and reset or replace the power components as needed.
