Tips On Sleeping
Most people suffer from insomnia at some point in their lives.
For most people it will only occur for a short time, whilst others may suffer for extended periods of time.
Your sleep can be greatly improved by a few simple tips: 1.
) Avoid cheese of any sort after 6 pm in the evening, in particular avoid Blue Cheese as this is known to cause nightmares if eaten late on at night.
2.
) Avoid red wine late on in the evening as this too can cause more stimulation of the mind than white wine, hence it is more likely to keep you awake.
The same rule should apply to drinking Port.
3.
) Avoiding eating late as if you eat late and then go straight to bed your body will still be working away at digesting your food and thus your metabolism will be running higher than if you had eaten earlier in the evening.
Even a light snack late at night can keep you awake.
4.
) Avoid watching television for at least an hour before you go to your bedroom.
As it is known that the television picture carries on stimulating the brain for some time even after you have stopped watching it.
5.
) For the same reason as in point 4.
) above, avoid using your computer after 9 pm, as this is known to stimulate your mind even more than watching television just before going to bed.
6.
) Avoid caffeine in the form of Tea or Coffee after 6 pm, as it will carry on stimulating your mind and body long after you have drunk it.
The same rule should also apply to fizzy soft drinks some of which contain large amounts of caffeine.
7.
) Try using a wheat based lavender scented pillow.
These can be gently heated in the microwave prior to going to bed.
Placed under your neck the heat combined with the Lavender scent released can greatly aid relaxation and hence sleep.
8.
) Have a hot (but not too hot) bath before going to bed to relax your muscles.
9.
) Last make your self a nice warm milky drink such as Ovaltine just before going to bed.
10.
) Make sure you have a glass of water by your bedside, this way if you feel thirsty at night then you do not have to get up (which would otherwise stimulate your body back in to life for a good 10 to 15 minutes).
