    Antioxidants

    • Antioxidants protect the body from damage due to free radicals. Free radicals occur due to a normal metabolism process in the body; however, because of factors such as poor diet, pollution and toxins, many people have high levels of free radicals. It's important to focus your diet on foods that will maintain antioxidant levels in your body to fight off cancer cells. Because antioxidants are often lost due to inflammation, eating foods that fight inflammation can also be helpful. Eat plenty of tomato products for the healthy antioxidant called lycopene. Examples of these foods are spaghetti sauce, ketchup, some soups and tomato juice. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, and other colorful fruits and vegetables, as well as beverages such as pomegranate juice and green tea can also help nourish your body with antioxidants.

    Flaxseed and Spinach

    • Prostate cancer patients who used ground flaxseed daily experienced a significant reduction in the spread of cancer cells. The study participants ate 30 grams of flaxseed per day. The omega-3 fatty acids in flaxseed are a possible reason for the anti-cancer activity; omega-3s can change the way in which cancer cells adhere together. It's important to grind flaxseed to get the health benefits. Another good food for prostate cancer patients is spinach. Spinach has a high concentration of neoxanthin. Neoxanthin is a compound that may help reduce the spread of prostate cancer cells.

    Vitamin E

    • Vitamin E may help combat cancerous cells. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that can help prevent the growth of tumors by destroying free radicals. Low levels of vitamin E may lead to a higher risk for cancer cell development, and that vitamin E may help lower the risk for specific cancers, such as prostate cancer. For men, the recommended dietary allowance is 10 mg daily. Natural sources of vitamin E include wheat germ, soybeans, peanut butter, olive oil, spinach, broccoli, almonds and avocados.
