What Is Temporomandibular Joint Disorder?

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder or TMJ, is a disorder that is not completely understood by health care professionals.
This disorder is a diagnosis of a few different painful symptoms that can affect people each and every day.
The symptoms vary from jaw pain and pain all around the jaw area, jaw tissue and all the surrounding tissue area, along with all jaw movements.
The jaw movements can vary from talking, eating, chewing, swallowing, making any facial movements, and in some serious cases, breathing can become very difficult.
Most people that are diagnosed with this condition have other medical conditions and TMJ can be ignored because of conditions like Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowl Syndrome, Sleep Disorders, and many other seriously painful disorders.
Temporamandibular Disorders are very difficult to understand and the symptoms that come from this serious condition can be triggered by genetics, everyday life stress, certain activities and in some cases, hormone levels can even trigger TMJ.
Receiving a true diagnosis for TMJ can be the most difficult part of the disorder for many people.
Most doctors will have a patient complete a full medical examination and certain other tests will be conducted to determine if a person has this disorder.
Some people even have to go through a series of doctors to be able to get the right diagnosis.
Dentists, Sleep Physicians, General Practitioners, Chiropractors, Neurologists, Ear, Nose and Throat specialists, and many other doctors might have to be seen in order to receive a diagnosis TMJ.
About half of the US population suffer from TMJ symptoms.
Both women and men can suffer from any of these symptoms, but the majority of the patients that receive  treatment for it are women in their childbearing years.
