In order to help members of the community and spread the message of the Bible, Christians engage in outreach activities. These can range from handing out free cups of lemonade to thirsty shoppers during the summer to sponsoring a charity concert or collecting clothing to donate to a battered women's shelter. The idea is to connect with members of the community and demonstrate God's love, while realizing that some individuals might be skeptical or wary of your intentions. - When military wives have to spend holidays without their husbands, a way to reach out to them is to gather church volunteers to assemble spa gift baskets filled with such items as lotion, candles, shampoo, tea and chocolate to distribute to the wives. The outreach volunteers can arrange for childcare and give the women a relaxing breakfast to ease some of the stress in their lives. This is done to show them that they are loved and to thank them for supporting their husbands who are serving our country.
- Super Bowl Sunday is often an occasion for men to spend hours drinking in bars away from their family. In contrast, Christian outreach coordinators sponsor a free, family-friendly Super Bowl party at the church. Amidst the fun of watching the game, guests will have an opportunity to meet with ministry leaders.
- Christian outreach can take the form of soliciting the community for volunteers to paint park benches, spruce up main street and do free remodeling work and repairs on buildings in need.
- Tending to the spiritual needs of prisoners is part of Christian outreach. Members of a church can visit incarcerated people and offer prayers and counseling as well as material aid to family members waiting for them at home.
- During a natural disaster such as a flood, earthquake or famine, Christian outreach can take care of people in need, offering food, blankets, shelter and medicine. Besides attending to their material needs, church members offer spiritual support and a sympathetic ear.
