How to Wire a Lamp Post That Has a Sensor & Outlet in It

    • 1). Turn off the power to the circuit that will be connected to the lamp post. Be safe and use the switch at your circuit breaker panel.

    • 2). Remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the black and white wires at the base of the lamp post, using a set of wire strippers. Do the same for the black and white wires coming from the power cable that will feed power to the lamp.

    • 3). Match together the bare ends of the black wires and slip a plastic wire nut over the end of the wires. Twist the wire nut so that it holds the wires together. Match together the bare ends of the white wires and slip a plastic wire nut over the end of the wires. Twist the wire nut so that it's tightly holding the wires together. Match together the ends of the green and bare wires and slip a plastic wire nut over the end of the wires. Twist the wire nut so that it's tightly holding the wires together. Wrap short pieces of electrical tape around the base of the wire nuts and the wires for extra holding power.
