Cesky Krumlov is in southern Bohemia, close to the Austrian border and about a three-hour bus ride from Prague. - The old town rests on a teardrop-shaped peninsula around which the river Vltava charmingly winds. The center is overlooked by a castle complex perched on a rock cliff.

First mentioned in 1253, Krumlov grew to prominence as a trade route on the Vltava River under the Rosenburg family. It was sold to pay debts in 1601. Control of the town changed numerous times until the end of World War II. - Krumlov's old town is itself a sight. It also features the Egon Schiele Museum, a brewery and a large castle complex noted for its bear-populated moat.

The city's location near Sumova National Park means plenty of nature tourism on tap. Horseback riding, hiking, biking and rafting are available at affordable prices. - Now a major tourist draw, the artist Egon Schiele was originally thrown out of town for immoral behavior.
