Classroom Management Workshops
- Tools for Teaching Workshops are workshops based on 30 years of research by Dr. Fred Jones. Dr. Jones began researching classroom management in 1969 when the term was not included in any teacher training courses. Jones performed firsthand research and experiments in classrooms where the teachers were successfully managing diverse students' needs. Dr. Jones published his findings in two books, "Positive Classroom Discipline," and "Tools for Teaching."
- The Teacher Learning Center offers workshops on the Discipline with Dignity program. Founded by Dr. Richard Curwin and Dr. Allen Mendler, Discipline with Dignity is used worldwide as an effective classroom management philosophy. The program teaches proven strategies capable of immediate implementation by teachers, administrators and support personnel. Strategies allow staff to spend less time dealing with behavioral problems and more time on teaching and positive interactions with students. Seminars are offered across the United States. They also offer on-line training. Visit the Teacher Learning Center website for more information.
- The Responsive Classroom program is designed for elementary schools to reduce problem behaviors and improve social and academic skills. Experienced classroom teachers teach Responsive Classroom workshops. Attendees are broken up into groups by grade level taught. Workshops offered include one-day workshops or week-long institutes. There are three levels of training, Responsive Classroom I, II and III, each building upon the next. The website offers information on current courses offered across the United States.
- The Love and Logic philosophy provides information for parents and educators to raise and educate responsible children. Educational expert Jim Fay, child psychiatrist Foster W. Cline, M.D. and Charles Fay, Ph.D. developed the programs. Love and Logic for teachers includes strategies for handling discipline problems, setting limits in the classroom, getting and keeping students' attention and managing interruptions. The Love and Logic website offers information on classes and seminars.
