How to Finish the Top of a Tub Surround
- 1). Protect areas, adjacent to the top of your tub surround, with masking paper and painter's tape. Protect the floor beneath the surround top with fabric drop cloths.
- 2). Scrub the top of your tub surround with a trisodium phosphate cleanser, using a coarse sponge. Rinse the surround top with wet rags and dry it with towels.
- 3). Stimulate primer adhesion by sanding the top of your tub surround. Scour the surround top until it feels slightly gritty.
- 4). Coat the top of your tub surround with acrylic latex spray primer. Hold the can eight inches from the surround top as you apply. Wait four hours for the primer to dry.
- 5). Coat the primed top of your tub surround with appliance epoxy spray paint. Hold the can eight inches from the surround top as you apply. Wait eight hours before using the shower or tub.
