How to Remove the Agitator From a 2004 Whirlpool
- 1). Unplug the power to your Whirlpool washer. Look for the plug leading out of the back of the machine and unplug it from the wall socket. If you can't reach the plug, turn off the power to the electrical outlet where the washer is plugged in at the main circuit.
- 2). Open the washer hood. Identify the agitator, which is the plastic, inverted top-shaped device in the middle of the tub.
- 3). Unscrew the water softener compartment, if it is attached. This is located at the top of the agitator. It may not be present on all 2004 Whirlpool washer models.
- 4). Remove the agitator cap by inserting the edge of a flat-head screwdriver underneath the cap where it meets the agitator body. Gently pry the cap off the top of the agitator.
- 5). Insert the socket wrench into the agitator. Unscrew the agitator bolt by turning it counterclockwise.
- 6). Place your hands underneath the agitator. Lift up on the agitator until it slides off the agitator shaft.
