How to Install a New Dryer Belt
- Check the operator’s manual that accompanied your dryer to determine the correct replacement drive belt to purchase. As a safety precaution, unplug the appliance before starting any repairs. Remove any lint screens that are not positioned inside the door of the unit. Use a putty knife with a thin blade to remove the top of the dryer from the front panel. Then remove the lower toe panel by releasing the clips holding it secure.
- To remove the belt, you need to loosen, but not remove, the screws located on the bottom sides of the front panel approximately 1 1/2 turns. Completely remove the top side screws on the front panel so it tips out slightly to allow access to the drum. Rest the drum on pieces of scrap wood as you work with the belt. You should be able to slide out the drive belt easily at this time.
- Drop the new belt in between the drum and the front panel, loop it over the drum and lift the drum slightly before pushing the front panel back in place. The grooved side of the belt faces down. Put the top screws back in before tightening the bottom screws. The rear drum seal needs to fit properly over the rear bulkhead lip. Pull out the old drive belt from the motor area. Pass the entire new doubled up drive belt around the idler and drive pulley and release the tension.
- Manually rotate the drum counterclockwise a few times to make sure that the new belt is working properly. Replace the lower toe panel and pop the top of the dryer back into place. After checking to make sure that all parts have been properly reassembled, you can plug in the dryer and test it to see that works with power.
