The South Delhi Divide

105 65
Ok, so here is the thing about restaurants in South Delhi, they mostly tend to exist in flocks. Surprisingly, this tends to work to their advantage, as most of the stand-alone restaurants usually don't stand the test of time (with a few exceptions of course).

For obvious reasons, these flocks exist in the market areas of the posh residential locations. So, here goes:

€ Khan Market:

The back lanes of this market tend to take you a little back in time with its redbrick flooring and rugged look and feel. Also the most expensive market (in terms of property prices) in all of Asia, it is known for a variety of eating out options from Chinese to Italian to Continental to Indian. It is even has various pubs/ bars to offer for your drinking pleasures.

€ Hauzkhas village:

Although, this one has always been part of the South Delhi food map, over the recent years this place has seen the maximum amount of new eating joints open up and offers a variety of new cuisines that have invaded the eating arena, including Tibetan, Mediterranean, European, Indonesian, Tex-Mex, Japanese and the likes. Even though it is like an adventure trip to find most of these restaurants, the amazing rooftop views, innovative ambience and d©cor concepts make it totally worth it.

€ Defence Colony Market:

Probably the erstwhile flocks to emerge in South Delhi, def. col. market (as it is popularly referred to) offers over 40 eating out options to choose from. Most of these are your run of the mill fast food joints or the typical Indian/ south Indian restaurants that have been there since forever. Defence colony is your convenient family dinner location.

€ The Malls:

Not exactly located in the heart of South Delhi, the malls at Saket and Vasant Kunj are crowded with restaurants. Apart from the food courts, dine-in restaurants are increasingly opening up their outlets at the malls. Also part of this bandwagon, are various sports clubs, bars and regular clubs.

Few smaller hubs also exist in South Delhi such as GK2: once at the top of the list, this place still boasts of few of the best Chinese restaurants in the city (Read China Garden and Mainland China) and few great bakeries (Read Whipped and Angels in my kitchen) and Khel gaon marg, the restaurants here have been there since forever and offer a consistent and affordable food experience (not the best but worth a visit).
