How to Prepare Wedding Invitations
- 1). Prepare the largest of the two envelopes. This is the outer envelope that will house a smaller envelope containing the actual invitation. Write out the address on this envelope, using titles and last names, such as Mr. and Mrs. John Doe. If your invitation is extended to children, it should read: Mr. and Mrs. John Doe and Family. Print your return address on the card to ensure that it is returned to you if there is a problem in delivery.
- 2). Fill out the smaller of the two envelopes. This is your inner envelope. On the outside, write the first names of the guests only. Drop the Mr. and Mrs., unless you are writing to a senior couple or a couple whom you are not personally acquainted with. In those cases, write the name the same way that it is written on the outer envelope. If inviting children, write the parents' names first, followed by the names of children, such as John and Jane; Jani and Johnny.
- 3). Complete the response card if necessary. Confirm that the response card has been printed to your specifications. Fill in any blanks areas, such as dates or times. Place the response card inside its envelope.
- 4). Prepare the invitation and enclosures. Place tissue or vellum paper over the face of the invitation. Put any additional cards or enclosures, such as a reception card and map card, on top of the invitation, face side up. These should be placed from largest to smallest. Set the response card on top of the other enclosures print side up as well.
- 5). Slide the invitation and the enclosures into the inner envelope. Depending upon your preference, you can either seal the inner envelope or leave it unsealed.
- 6). Place the inner envelope into the outer one. It should be inserted so that the names on the envelope are facing the back of the outer envelope.
