DIY Kitchen Plumbing Fixes
Faucet, sink, drain basket and garbage disposal are the basic plumbing fixtures that can cause plumbing issues like leaky pipe, clogged sink, dripping drain baskets and wrecked garbage disposals respectively. Here are the DIY fixes for these most common kitchen plumbing issues:
Dripping or Blocked Kitchen Faucet
To fix a blocked or dripping kitchen faucet, you first need to check the aerator (the open end where water oozes out). Unscrew the aerator and look for particles obstructing the flow of water. If water runs out freely without the aerator, the mineral deposits in the aerator must be responsible for the block and so it should be cleaned thoroughly before placing it back. On the other hand, if the water doesn't flow out even after removing the aerator, the issue could be with the washer. Even in case of dripping pipes, the issue could be with the washer. The only solution is to take apart the faucet and replace the faulty washer. To replace the washer you need to remove the cap of the tap handle and unscrew the faucet stem. Take out the packing nut, to the bottom of which you can find the faulty washer to be replaced. Replace the washer, fix it back to the faucet and find the issue resolved.
Clogged Sinks
Clogged sink is a common plumbing issue particularly for sinks without garbage disposal. Pieces of food substances get stuck in the pipe under the sink and obstruct the water from draining out properly. Make use of chemical drain cleaner or a plunger to dislodge the block. If either of these methods does not work, it is advised to contact a licensed plumber.
Dripping Drain Baskets
The best fix for dripping drain baskets would be to replace the faulty drain basket with a brand new one. When you purchase a new drain basket, look for the ones made out of high-quality material and that lasts long. High quality drain baskets are usually more durable.
Wrecked Garbage Disposals
In order to fix the wrecked garbage disposal in your kitchen, you need to reset the garbage disposal by pushing-in the red button situated under the disposal. If the garbage disposal continues to remain non-functional, seek the service of expert professionals to get it repaired or replaced.
So, act immediately as soon as you find a plumbing issue in your kitchen. Fixing the issue in the initial stage using DIY fix can help you save your hard-earned money. On the other hand, if you aren't confident or if the issue is serious, make sure to get the issue fixed by any expert professional.
