Are There Security Cameras in Cabs?
Security seems to be one of the areas of constantly growing concern in today's world.
One area in which we see this clearly is in the taxi services industry.
While in the past it would have been quite uncommon to see a video or security camera of any kind in a taxi, this is now something which is getting much more common.
This is partly a result of the technology being to a point where this is now something which can be practically accomplished, but it is also due to the rising security concerns which present to those driving cab for a living.
In some cities, it is now required that all cabs have cameras in them for a variety of reasons.
In other locations, it is going to be up to the cab companies to decide whether or not their cabs are going to have security cameras in them.
It is safe to assume by now though, that most cabs that you ride in are probably going to have a video recording device of some type at work as a security measure.
If a taxi does have a security camera in it somewhere, this should be clearly marked somewhere on the cab.
If you look, you should be able to know if a cab has a camera in it before you ever get inside.
Of course, the mere presence of a camera is a deterrent to a large degree for cab based crime, which leads to another issue.

There are also cabs which might go further and have a fake camera head installed, but which won't actually have any live recording being taped from the camera.
These measures can be excellent crime deterrents without the full cost of running a taxi based camera system.

The footage which is recorded is never going to be looked at unless there is a criminal complaint.
Even in that instance, unless you are personally guilty of the offense being investigated, your privacy and anonymity should be protected.
