How to Fix a Stand Mixer
- 1). Diagnose the problem based on your observations of the problem. The symptoms of the issue with the stand mixer can be diagnosed based on noises, odors and the temperature of the mixing unit.
- 2). Touch the motor housing if you smell a strong electrical odor. The motor housing may be very hot if the mixer has been under a high amount of strain (as when mixing bread dough, or other thick or heavy recipes). In these situations, it is normal for the motor housing to heat up and give off an odor. You need to do nothing to solve this issue except allow the motor and mixer housing to cool in-between uses. Strong odors from the motor housing are especially normal when the stand mixer is new.
- 3). Stop the mixer if the flat beater attachment hits the mixing bowl during operation. When the mixing beater attachment hits the bowl an abnormal noise is produced. Unplug the unit and tilt the mixing head back. The adjustment screw is located at the junction between the mixing head and the base. Turn the screw clockwise to lower the beater; counterclockwise to raise the beater. Adjusting the beater height will prevent the beaters and the mixing bowls from wearing excessively. It will also cure the abnormal noise.
