Coaxial Cable Connectors - The What"s and How"s

103 28
Let's face it.
The ordinary man or woman on the street has no idea what coaxial cable connectors are.
When I was setting up my home theater a couple of years back, all my techie friends kept on saying I should get them to get good picture quality.
I would nod and pretend to know what they were talking about, but the truth was that I knew nothing about what they were referring to.
Nada.
Zero.
Zilch.
So, what is a coaxial cable connector, exactly? And why do you need it to set up your home theater, cable or internet? Coaxials are basically cables designed to carry high-frequency or broadband signals.
They are usually the type of connectors used to wire cable television and computer networks.
Though a coaxial cable may be a bit more expensive than a regular wire, it is far less susceptible to interference, as opposed to, say, a regular telephone wire.
How does it work? Simply put, coaxial connectors consist of cylindrical-shaped wires covered by what is called a "spacer.
" A spacer is basically a cylindrical-shaped sheath that covers the wires and is, in turn, covered by another protective layering: the insulating jacket.
This layer upon layer of covering is what promotes maximum data transmission and makes it inaccessible to interference.
You can purchase coaxial cable connectors at any hardware or electrical store.
If you don't know which one to get, ask the help of a professional or the sales people in the store.
Good luck!
