How a Stay-At-Home Mom Can Blog Successfully

103 23
For many years I was a stay-at-home mom who was also a writer.
On top of being a stay-at-home mom, I was also a homeschooling mom, so even once my kids were school age, I still had them around me 24/7.
To make matters worse, I prefer to write in absolute silence, and don't concentrate well when there is noise around me.
In spite of that, I learned to write well, with kids under foot, and these tips may help you blog consistently as well as a stay-at-home mom.
1.
Play "the quiet game," with your kids.
Being someone who loves quiet, and having talkative kids, for my own sanity, I came up with "the quiet game.
" We mostly played it when were in the car, and when the chatter was getting on my nerves, but I found it also helped me get some writing done when we played it at home.
Here's how it works: In an enthusiastic voice, announce to your kids, "Let's play the quiet game!" If your kids like to play games like mine did, they will immediately stop talking, because when playing the quiet game, the first person who talks, loses.
2.
Enlist the help of the kids' dad.
I was fortunate to have a husband who was supportive of my writing, and hopefully you have a husband, or if you're single, a friend, who will be willing to watch the kids for you so you can write.
These times may not last long, but take advantage of them whenever you can get them, and write as much as you can, as fast as you can.
3.
Get up 15-30 minutes early.
I said get up early, but just as easily, this works with staying up late.
The bottom line is to carve out some extra time to write blog posts when the kids are sleeping.
Notice that I said 15-30 minutes, not 2 hours.
The reason for this is that you do need your sleep, and in the long run, you'll get more done and be a happy, healthier mom, with adequate sleep.
But sleeping even 15 minutes less each day and devoting that time to blogging will make a big difference, when done consistently.
Finally, enjoy those kids, because they really do grow up too fast!
