Blogging For Money
Until a few weeks ago I didn't even know what the word 'blog' stood for let alone how to create one.
Sure I'm familiar with the internet and websites but blogs?? Of course I'd come across the word from time to time but somehow I associated 'the blog' with student groups, anarchists or hippies.
I never considered it a way of making a little extra money or in certain cases, an opportunity to earn a lucrative income.
My interest was piqued however when I received a mail shot from a young entrepreneur, only a few years out of high school, declaring that working for a living was passe and blogging was indeed the way ahead if I wanted to make money.
So I decided to investigate further.
I discovered that a blog is in fact a web log.
In other words a sort of online journal.
Instead of writing secret thoughts in a diary and hiding it under the bed as we used to do in the past, apparently nowadays it's the fashion to log it all down on the computer and publish it for the world to see.
A peculiar concept I have to say, however according to my young entrepreneur, the world is out there just waiting to read what I've written and not only that, but I can get paid for the privilege.
I couldn't quite figure all of this out in the beginning however after delving a little deeper it's all becoming much clearer.
Blogs aren't merely just a collection of thoughts.
Blogs are about subjects that people are interested in, passionate about or experts at.
That's why they are so popular and why people can't get enough of them.
What started out for some as a simple online diary has gradually become a thriving business as they attract more and more readers.
Those readers then become potential customers for anything they may want to sell or promote on their blog.
Are you getting the picture? Visitors = potential customers = money! At least that's my interpretation of it.
Perhaps I've over simplified it a bit but I'm eager to give it a try.
After all, what have I got to lose except maybe a few dollars for a domain name and a few more for a cheap web hosting package.
I reckon I can be up and running for under $20 and who knows, there might be an enthusiastic audience out there just waiting to hear what I have to say and hopefully buy whatever I choose to promote.
However, I'm not throwing away my trusty old diary yet.
Some things are far better kept locked away safely under the bed, but that's another story.
