The main goal for every beginner who steps in the gym, is to master the basics.
Building the foundation is essential and without a good foundation, eventually you will hit a plateau and your progress stops.
Ideally, a beginner should start off training three times a week and working all the body parts in one session.
You do not need a huge variety of exercises to work out each body part.
1-2 exercises for 1-2 sets for every body part will be good enough because training is new and foreign to the body.
The proper form is the most important factor of your workout.
If you want to develop a lot of muscle very quickly then you absolutely have to master the techniques of every single exercise.
When you are starting out then putting a lot of weight to the bar is not important, keep your weight light, easy and comfortable.
Using light weights at the beginning will help you master the proper form.
A complete beginner can work each body part more often than a advanced bodybuilder.
Because the goal is to achieve the right technique, so you will not do an exercises wrong even if you want to.
You also have to feel the muscle you are working.
If you do leg extensions, bicep curls or anything else, watch the muscle contract.
Eventually when you progress forward, the weights will get heavier all the time.
Practicing the "feel" part of the exercise from the first day, the big weights that are required to build tense and thick muscles will work miracles for you because your mind has been conditioned to subconsciously feel the weight placed on the muscle all the way through each rep and each set.
The last thing I what to point out, is to leave your ego home.
The worst thing you can do is impress your friends with huge weights.
The ego interferes with your workout quality, the feeling and proper form goes away and you will not build any muscle at all.
A guy who has been working out only a couple of months, can gain more muscle, then a guy who has worked out 2-3 years.
Why? Because most guys have no idea how to build muscle and do so many mistakes.
