The Dangers of Driving Under the Influence
There are laws in place to restrict the amount of alcohol that can be ingested before operating a vehicle, and a responsibility to safe social drinking that should be adhered to in order to ensure the well being of the driver as well as anyone who may be on or near the road.
When people choose to drive their cars after passing the legal limit, they are compromising the safety of many others.
Consumption of alcohol can have negative effects on the ability of an individual to make coherent decisions regarding their vehicle and actions on the road.
The Dangers of Driving While Intoxicated There are many ways that drunk drivers can be hazardous for motorists and pedestrians, including:
- Impaired judgment- This can lead to accidents resulting from a failed attempt to stop the vehicle in time, turn correctly, or avoid another car.
- Failure to acknowledge warning signs or traffic laws- Stop signs, traffic lights, and laws governing speed limits are often disregarded or forgotten by intoxicated drivers and can lead to serious accidents and injury.
- Lack of focus on other vehicles or pedestrians- Intoxicated drivers may be unable to give proper attention to other cars or pedestrians that may be on or near roadways, putting themselves and others in danger.
