How Do Mobisodes Work With a Cell Phone?
- The term "Mobisode" refers to an episode of a popular television show (or Web-exclusive show) that has been adapted for viewing on a cellular telephone. They are far shorter in length than an average television program (two to five minutes as opposed to the 22- or 44-minute length of a regular program without commercials) in order to improve both download speeds and satisfy memory concerns.
- There are full episodes of certain programs that have been adapted into "mobisodes." These can be either a complete episode split up into multiple parts, or a compilation of integral plot points (if the show is a traditional narrative), the best jokes (for shows like "Saturday Night Live" and "The Daily Show") or important news stories. These mobisodes can often be downloaded at the show's website.
- Certain programs have designed mobisodes with exclusive content not on the actual show. ABC's hit drama "Lost" ran a series of mobisodes featuring scenes not designed to run in the body of the show but that were still considered part of the show's storyline. Other shows have done this as well, most notably the Sci-Fi Channel's "Battlestar Galactica." Shows have also offered mobisodes with deleted scenes that were cut out of episodes prior to broadcast.
