Wedding Flower Tips & Techniques

104 19

    In Bloom

    • Choose a flower that is in bloom during your wedding. This ensures that there is an abundance of them and that they are cheap. If your flower is out of bloom, it is more difficult to locate and order fresh. Choosing something in bloom will give you fuller bouquets and arrangements for less money. Since this flower may not be in bloom when you are planning the wedding, work with a florist to find out exactly what is in bloom. Also, if your wedding is in an unusual location, like a tropical island, choose native flowers so that you won't need to have many flowers shipped.

    Holidays

    • Be wary of planning your wedding around holidays. Some times of year, more flowers are ordered than others, which makes them more expensive. For example, flowers and arrangements cost more around Valentine's Day because florists are so busy making many different arrangements. However, if your wedding is in a church, then having it near a holiday can work to your benefit. For example, many churches decorate with poinsettias near Christmas, which means you can freely take advantage of the arrangements they have already done.

    Take a Class

    • Take a flower arrangement class at your local community college or a craft store. While you may not be making your own bouquets and arrangements, this teaches you about all aspects of the flower arrangement process so that you can make educated decisions about your arrangements. Also, you can speak intelligently to the person who is making the arrangements, which ensures they come out exactly the way that you want them to.

    Greenery

    • For fuller bouquets without using too many flowers, use leaves and garnishes. These are in season all the time so you can find the perfect leaves to accent your bouquets. Keep in mind that while you pay lots of attention to detail on your big day, your guests may hardly notice how bouquets look because they will be focusing on you. Your table arrangements can include lots of tasteful greenery to make them bigger and fuller.
