What Electric Heater Is More Efficient - Oil or Ceramic?
- Oil-filled heaters are radiant heaters. They heat the oil, which then radiates the heat into the room. Many oil heaters also have a small fan. The benefit is they maintain a steady heat and are good for heating a room.
- Ceramic heaters are convection heaters made with a central core heated by an element. A small fan blows or pulls air over the heated core. The outside case stays cool while the fan makes the heat easy to direct to a specific area.
- The Town of Middleton, Massachusetts points out that, although ceramic heaters and oil-filled heaters are 100 percent efficient, electricity is expensive. Most central heat systems are more energy- and cost-efficient than electric heaters. Any space heater, if not used properly, can start a fire.
