Do you want to migrate to Australia for the purpose of working and living in this country? If you are, then skilled migration visa would be the best option for you. Under the General Skilled Migration category of Australia, the skilled applicants have to fulfill the criteria by using their qualifications, language ability and work experience determined by the Immigration Department of Australian for a residence visa.

The General Skilled Migration program is the best option for those who have the skills required for the skilled occupations in Australia. In order to fulfill the urgent need for skilled workers in Australia, the government of this country has recently introduced its latest skilled occupations list where 13 more new occupations are added.

To apply as a skilled migrant to Australia, applicants have to be between the age of 18 to 50 years with good English speaking ability. They also need to have the required qualification or work experience for a profession mentioned in Skilled Occupation List of Australia.  

Under this category, there are different types of subclass visa choices available, organized into offshore and onshore categories and into independent and sponsored categories. Onshore visa is actually for those individuals who are already living in Australia over a suitable visa applying under the category of GSM. However, the offshore visa is for those who will be issued a permanent visa from overseas and for people who are looking for migrating as a skilled immigrant to Australia.

If you have any close relative staying in Australia who is willing to sponsor you or a territory or state government of the country is sponsoring you, then you can apply for sponsored visa. For Sponsored visas, there are some other requirements which the applicant needs to fulfill and in certain cases, a bond may require to pay.

The Independent visa category is considered to be best for those, having the right educational qualifications and but, don't have an employer or owner to sponsor or support them. The best thing about this visa category is that it has less restriction placed upon them.

There are certain visa subclasses which are evaluated on the basis of a points system. When a candidate is evaluated under the points system and don't score adequate points to be eligible, they are kept into a reserve pool that are taken into concern if the points requirement will be less in the future.
