Lose Weight Free - Get More Sleep!

103 171
Put away those expensive diet pills and make friends with your pillow if you want to lose more weight and keep it off.
New research from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine finds that those who sleep fewer than six hours a night are more likely to be obese.
Normal sleepers who get seven or eight hours of sleep a night also are less likely to be obese than those who sleep too much.
What this study does is confirm what earlier research already has suggested.
Too little sleep throws your hormones that control over-eating out of whack, also causing more stress, which makes you eat even more.
Are you getting the message? Take it from a former fatty.
I once tipped the scales at more than 200 pounds.
Now I eat healthy and sleep healthy, too.
Here's the bonus: getting more sleep is free! So why spend money in this bad economy on useless and even dangerous diet pills that won't work anyway? Here are six tips to help you get more sleep:
  1. Create a worry-free zone.
Clear your bedroom of work and clutter to allow your mind to zone out on worries and get some z's.
  2. Unwind your body.
Don't exercise or eat a big meal two or three hours before you go to sleep.
You want to shut your body down, not put it back to work.
Try a soothing cup of non-caffeinated tea before bed.
  3. Love your pillow.
Invest in a pillow that's perfect for you.
    Use a soft, non-scratchy pillowcase.
If your sleeping pillow doesn't match your bedroom décor, keep it under the bed and pull it out every night for a comfy sleep.
  4. Relax your mind.
    Keep a worry journal.
Two hours before going to sleep, write down what's worrying you, and then add this note: Deal with this tomorrow morning.
    Pray away your worries.
    Meditate.
  5. Stay on schedule.
If you wake up in the middle of the night, don't go back to work on your housecleaning or work projects.
Stay in the bedroom and read a few pages of a book.
You're teaching your body that bedtime means just that - bedtime.
Soon, you'll be getting those healthy eight hours of shuteye by night that will prime your body to skip those extra calories by day.
