    Rosetta Stone

    • Rosetta Stone offers levels one through three of the Hebrew language learning software. Learning Hebrew through Rosetta Stone requires no fundamental knowledge of the language before starting the software. The program works by teaching you a new language in a similar manner that you used to learn your native language. The software program starts teaching Hebrew by showing you a series pictures along with a word that correspond to each picture and an audio clip of how each word is pronounced. It then has you select the picture that corresponds to different words. It is OK to be wrong because that is critical in the learning process. After you learn words, then you move on to phrases and then full sentences. More steps are added gradually as you progress through the lessons. Rosetta Stone is unique because it does not involve English translation while you learn Hebrew words, which help you develop a strong foundation in the Hebrew language.

    Learning Tips

    • Some tips to learning the Hebrew language are to understand its use of consonants and vowels. Hebrew is normally written without the use of vowels, except in poetry, religious texts and children's books. Hebrew vowels are characterized by using a method of dots and lines that are written above, underneath and inside of its consonants. If you have no prior Hebrew language understanding at all, it may be difficult to pick the correct picture that corresponds to a word because you may not be able to pick up visual clues from the picture or text; this is because Hebrew is so different from English. Do not give up, however, and do not cheat by looking up the answer elsewhere because that will only hurt your learning experience. Just remember that making mistakes is welcome, and trial and error helps you learn the language.
