How to Make Flower Arrangements for a Wedding's Presentation Style

104 33
    • 1). Define the desired presentation style of your wedding. Will it be laid-back and casual? Do you prefer formal? Flower arrangements, from bridal bouquets to reception centerpieces, help set a specific tone for the event, so be sure to know ahead of time what vibe you want.

    • 2). Browse bridal magazines and Internet resources for flower arrangement ideas. With a specific theme in mind, you'll be able to pick out ones that go along with your preferred look and more easily eliminate other pretty options that are inconsistent with your theme. Bookmark pages and pull out magazine pictures with flowers that you like, and keep a folder of ideas.

    • 3). Once you have narrowed down your options, locate a flower source that sells in bulk. This can include a local flower market, buying club (such as Costco), or even online sellers that deliver straight to your door.

    • 4). Have the flowers delivered or pick them up a few days before the event. Three days is a good estimate, although this can depend on the type of flowers with which you will be working. Have multiple containers or buckets ready to store the flowers and a relatively cool place out of direct sunlight and away from heat to keep them.

    • 5). Prepare the flowers by removing outer foliage, thorns and outer petals. Depending on the type of flower, you will need to time your work to force the flowers open at the right time.

    • 6). Trim the ends of the stems with your stem cutter to allow them to absorb water while stored. However, keep them somewhat long until after you've completed arranging them. You don't want to trim too much at the beginning and wind up with flowers that are too short for your desired arrangements.

    • 7). Assemble the bouquets, centerpieces, pew decorations or any other floral arrangements you've chosen to undertake. You'll need to have plenty of floral arranging tools on hand, such as floral tape and wire, to achieve professional-looking results.
