How to Feed Baby Humming Birds

    • 1). Mix one tablespoon of sugar with four tablespoons of water in a small cup.

    • 2). Fill a syringe or eyedropper with the sugar water mixture. Carefully place the tip of the syringe or eyedropper near the hummingbird's beak. Wait for the bird to show interest and open its beak.

    • 3). Watch for the bird's tongue moving or bubbles in the liquid. This is how you'll know the bird is drinking. Do not squeeze the syringe or eyedropper. The fluid may come out too quickly and drown the baby.

    • 4). Feed every 30 minutes for 24 hours until you can reach help. A veterinarian or hummingbird specialist needs to take over after that point to give the bird the proper nutrition to stay alive.
