Bathroom lights placement and construction ideas

Bathroom lighting is a universal consideration. From quiet getaways to mansions, lighting these rooms is a task that everyone has to undertake. When choosing bathroom lighs, there are several things to consider. A single bathroom ceiling light will in most cases be far from adequate.
A good rule of thumb for trying to light a bath is to not allow more than about 24 inches of area per light. Wall sconces, overhead lights, fan light combos, and vanity lights are all various bathroom lighting fixtures. Bathrooms serve a double purpose. They need to blend with the overall decor of the home and also function to assist the owner in getting ready for the day or evening. Inside a shower there are waterproof and water-resistant lights. Similar to the lights found in hot tubs, so light under the water. Shower lights are recessed into the ceiling and provide extra light for specifically the shower or tub enclosure.
Exhaust fans are another area that is easily overlooked. Many electricians simply stick a fan in a corner or at the top of a wall. Look beyond these typical places and incorporate a light in with the fan. Though some of these combos don't look to be of very high quality, I found several to choose from when we built our own home. The one I liked the very best was a round light with the fan area built in behind it. For even more flexibility the fan and light can be wired separately to enable the use of one without the use of the other.
Bathroom vanity lights are the actual heart of the room. To maximize the usefulness gained from the lighting, it is smart to use more than just a bar light. Consider adding a vertical light on each side of the mirror. This provides light from each side and overcomes the shadows.
A final light that I love in my bath is the heat lamp. On a separate switch so that it is only used when I need it, this light is great. On cool fall days or in the middle of winter, I have been glad for it more than once.
Whatever you're custom home plans or options, it is a great advantage to plan ahead and select your bathroom lights before the remodeling or construction process begins. Be sure to talk personally with your electrician. He is there to serve you and make your bathroom lighting ideas into reality. Be sure he is clear on your objectives and preferred lighting before he begins. If the exhaust fan is wired for an out of the way corner, it may not work well to mount a really nice exhaust fan light combo. Communication is very important to insure that your ideas are carried out.
