How to Train Jasmine on a Wire Fence
- 1). Prune the jasmine vine, using garden shears to remove any dead or damaged vines. Cut them back to the ground. Prune the jasmine in early fall, before the cold sets in.
- 2). Select the strongest vertically growing vines and cut them back to 1/3 of their length with the garden shears. Cut back the weaker vertical vines to the ground. This encourages the vine to strengthen the already successful shoots, and prevents the plant from only producing foliage at the tips.
- 3). Unravel any vines that are traveling in a direction you do not want and carefully wind them around the wires in the fence that lead to the direction you want the plant to grow. Secure the vine to the fence with a twist tie. Check the tie once a week to make sure it isn't cutting into the plant, and remove it once the vine establishes itself in the correct direction.
