    • 1). Unplug the GE dryer power cord from the dryer outlet. Pull the dryer 2 feet away from the rear wall.

    • 2). Go to the back of the dryer and locate the lower access panel. Remove the screws securing the lower access panel to the rear of the dryer with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the access panel away. This provides access to the motor and idler pulley.

    • 3). Look for a second small access plate on the rear center of the GE dryer, if your dryer is an older model. Remove the screws securing the plate with the Phillips-head screwdriver to gain access to the dryer drum rear bearing.

    • 4). Open the dryer door and look for four screws on the upper lip of the door opening. Remove the four screws with the screwdriver. Close the dryer door once you remove the screws or if there are no screws present.

    • 5). Slide a 2-inch putty knife or a kitchen butter knife between the top and front panels, if there were no screws inside the door opening. Slide the putty knife 4 inches from either front corner until you feel resistance. The resistance is a spring clip. Push the putty knife blade over the spring clip while lifting the GE dryer top panel. Lift the top panel up and back so that the top panel rests on the rear hinges.

    • 6). Loosen the two screws at the bottom of the front panel two complete turns with the screwdriver. Remove the screws on the upper inside corners securing the front panel to the sides of the GE dryer.

    • 7). Disconnect the dryer door switch on the inside right of the front panel with your fingers. The door switch connector is a white plastic box with wires connecting near the inside door latch. Press the locking tabs on the side of the connector with your fingers and pull it away from the switch.

    • 8). Lift up on the front panel and pull it away from the GE dryer. All areas of the GE dryer are now accessible for service.
