What is a Bedbug? Being a Pest Professional I get the question on a regular basis.
The bedbug (or bed bug) is an insect of the family Cimicidae that lives by hematophagy - feeding on the blood of humans and other warm-blooded hosts.
Its name comes from its preferred habitat: mattresses, sofas, and other furniture WOW that is a long definition.
In basic terms a Bed Bug is a small insect that feeds on blood from mammals (including humans).
Are Bedbugs Dangerous? There are many misconceptions of Bedbugs.
One is many people think they spread disease.
This is not true, there is no evidence that Bedbugs spread disease from on host to another.
Even though Bedbugs cannot Spread disease, there are other reasons to fear this small hidden creature.
The saliva of a Bedbug is injected into its host to prevent the blood from Clotting.
This same saliva can cause itchy red marks where bitten, and even in a few individuals it can cause anaphylactic shock.
As well as infection from repeated scratching, which can also result in scarring.

You may actually remove some with your vacuum.
Linens and clothing You want to remove all your linens from your bed, as well as remove all clothing from dressers and closets.
Launder with water with a temperature of at least 120 f.
If you cannot place items in the washer you can place them in your clothes dryer on high heat for 20 Min's or more.
If items will not fit in your dryer or you have many large stuffed animals.
Place these items in large black trash bags.
and place items outside in the sun for several hours.
The heat will kill any live bugs as well as the eggs.
It has to be warm outside.
There are many misconceptions that freezing will kill Bed Bugs this is not true unless you use liquid nitrogen.
The live bugs go dormant as well as the eggs.
