    • 1). Meet up with your supervisor to determine what middle management training opportunities are available. Ask what you would need to do to be considered for a position in the training program. Develop a plan with your supervisor to help you meet those criteria.

    • 2). Learn as much about the organization as you can. Middle management is a large segment of the management chain. It refers to all the managers between the front line and the executive level. To advance to middle management training, you should know which area of middle management you would like to work in. Being knowledgeable about the organization will also help you demonstrate your interest.

    • 3). Network within the organization as much as possible. One fast way to get put in middle management training is to find a manager who wants to groom you for a position in their department. To network, volunteer for special projects, for committees or for outside activities that will give you the chance to interact with other managers in the organization. Also consider networking outside of your organization through trade organizations, professional associations or other professional networking groups.

    • 4). Work to excel at your existing position. Demonstrate your ability to manage projects by volunteering for extra work or leadership positions on your existing team. Demonstrate dependability, maturity, a willingness to learn and a desire to excel. Collect evidence of your work achievements such as letters from clients, sales or other performance figures or any other tangible results. Demonstrating a track record of excellence will help get you selected for middle management training.
