Your Simple Guide to Portable Air Conditioning

Around 70 years have lapsed since the invention of the air conditioner, but our earth hasn't turned any cooler! Despite becoming a dire necessity even before the summers sets in, it is still a luxury for large number of people.
The central air conditioning is a costly option for most homes and would be just superfluous for small houses.
It's nice that now a day's portable air conditioning has emerged as a viable option for most homeowners who want to achieve cooling on the budget.
What Is It? A portable air conditioning unit is quite different from the wall mounted or central cooling type units, in a way that it is mobile and smaller in size.
Most of these units are just 30 to 35 inches in height and weight just 32-37 kilos.
There is no permanent installation required for the portable air conditioners.
How Does It Work? A house owner would need the following things for installing a portable AC: Proper space for the unit itself; an electric point and an exhaust vent to drain the hot air from the room.
Its operation is similar to old traditional ACs.
The unit starts cooling the room by making use of refrigeration cycle and Freon.
Portable AC has a box frame which contains the cold as well as hot sides, apart from the exhaust hose to expel hot air outside the room and is about 6-8 feet in length.
The condensation from the cooling unit is used again to cool it though once in a while excess condensate may form.
Excess condensate can be removed in two ways: Removing manually: The condensate gets collected in bucket and is emptied from time to time.
Removal through evaporation: The condensate evaporates and is usually removed via main vent hose.
Where can it be used? Due to the small size of portable air conditioners, they are best for cooling small areas which may need quick spot cooling.
They may be installed in the home offices, apartments, server rooms and any other place where installation of big air conditioners is not feasible.
For achieving quick cooling and energy conservation, these air conditioners can be easily used in the large houses for cooling few rooms.
