104 37

    Pricing

    • Pricing a comic book is based on the physical quality of the book, the age of the book and the number of copies in circulation. The grades run from mint condition to no grade at all, which is normally reserved for comics without a cover.

    Storage

    • Proper storage of a comic book entails putting the comic into a Mylar sleeve with a specially treated pressed board backing and then sealing the sleeve with tape. Keep comics out of direct sunlight and moisture.

    Significance

    • In 1946 the "N.W. Ayer & Son's Directory of Newspapers and Periodicals" reported that the sale of comic books had exceeded the sale of traditional books. Concerned parents began burning comic books to try and halt their influence.

    Considerations

    • Comic books have long been a target for detractors. In his May 8, 1940, essay titled "A National Disgrace," famed American author Sterling North implied that parents who allowed comic book reading were committing a criminal act.

    Fun Fact

    • The U.S. Postal Service issued a stamp to commemorate the superheroes of the DC Comics collection on July 20, 2006.
