An Insight Into Home Elevator
Why would a person invest in a home elevator? Its not easy to imagine what some enfeebled elders like I endure during our daily lives. Comfort is definitely a big incentive for people installing a home elevator in their houses. However, elevators are no longer a symbol of luxury as it used to be. With a growing geriatric population, the need is unavoidable.
I am lucky to have a loving son-in-law who went through all the trouble of getting the engineers measure the house refurbishing it for my comfort. He was particularly persuasive in convincing me to use the home elevator. With hardly any knowledge of using one, the home elevator seemed something from a different world. I was amazed at how a home elevator worked, but that is a different story.
Bowing to his countless enticements and egged on by my burning curiosity, one day I decided to oblige him. I must say, it was nothing like I feared. The exterior was pristine white; the innards were solid wood with an easy looking panel. There was an alarm, a telephone cradle, a couple of switches which ensured that I could force the contraption to halt whenever necessary. The smoothness of ascent was particularly surprising. I did not realize that lift carried me from the ground floor to the 3rd floor without me realizing any significant movement.
In home elevator, such as the one in my house are made with power consumption issues in mind. One would not like to pay thousands in electricity bills. Most of these are so power efficient that they do not require any while coming down. As my son-in-law pointed out, the cars were capable of hauling the weight of 5 passengers and the space was adequate for a wheelchair to be pulled in and out without chafing the walls of the car.
I was also particularly pleased with the digital display beautifully embedded into the walls of the car. The way I am getting used to it shows that I am starting to like this latest addition to my home.
