Buying Your First Sewing Machine

103 28
Buying a new sewing machine can be a difficult thing to do.
It's hard to even know where to begin with dozens of brands swirling around the web and with hundreds of features to sort through on each and every machine.
It can be a difficult task for even experienced sewers to do.
When you are new to sewing and crafting, it is even a more difficult task.
Buying your first sewing machine can be much easier if you know the right things to be looking for.
First of all, as with any product, choosing the correct brand is very important.
When I choose any product to purchase, I automatically exclude any brand that has not been around for a long time and that does not have a good reputation among past consumers.
This is the first thing that should always be done to weed out those sewing machines that will be a waste of your time.
My philosophy is this: let other people try out those brand names that are unheard of.
When they have been tried and are true, I can then try them out.
To begin with, it is always a good idea to stick with what you KNOW will work.
Secondly, don't just buy the cheapest machine available.
Typically with any brand of sewing machine, the cheapest machine that they offer is going to have minor issues.
By paying a few more dollars, you will be saving yourself a lot of time and a lot of headaches.
Sewing machines can be touchy things.
Believe me when i say that it is worth spending $100 more than dealing with all of these issues.
Third, if you are an experienced sewer, you are looking for advanced features and for more stitches.
Some machines even go as far as connecting to a computer and embroidering designs that you have found or created on your PC.
If you are a beginner, ignore all of this.
Most features on an average sewing machine are never used and you will only confuse yourself by getting caught up with the number of features that are on your sewing machine.
It is better to learn the basic features that come on every sewing machine before you move on to advanced features on the more expensive sewing machines.
The last thing you will want to do before you purchase a sewing machine is look at what others have to say about that brand or about that particluar machine that you may be interested in.
There are dozens of sewing and craft forums on the web, each with hundreds of people who have gone through what you are now going through.
They may have valuable information that you may not have thought about yet.
